The weather turns nasty.

Posted by Quentin Knights in Poor weather

All I can say is that today has not been fun, westerly 7 to severe gale 9, sea like a cliff. If anybody wants an exhilarating ride just step aboard my boat on a day like this, it makes a rollecoaster seem like a toddlers merry-go-round at the funfair. Walshie, Gervasio and myself still fishing in the same area....some of the lines being parted at times, especially when towing down the weather; a fish take the lure and dives, crewman tries to hold it, 120 tonnes of Nova Spero gets picked up by a 30-40 foot seas and throws her down into the next trough.....twang...fish gone.....me gone....nuts!!

Anyhow, ended up with 135 pocos...not bad considering weather....Gervasio 150.....Walshie's the boy with 200! Salad's out curry's in.....hasta la vista, CAPITANO

Circled by sharks !!

Posted by Quentin Knights in Sharks

Gervasio has joined us as fishing was slack with him. Who would have believed it....me telling a Spanish fisherman-friend where to catch tuna?? I'm delighted to return the favour.

Fishing going well, but we had a bit of a fright earlier......were pulling in a few fish when we saw a big shark, reckon it was a thresher, took one fish right off the hook.....cheek of it.....bore an uncanny resemblance and attitude to one of the fish buyers at home!

Giving poor weather for next two days so will have to go into washing machine mode again. Ended up with 229 bonitos. Rgds CAPITANO.

Weekend update

Posted by Quentin Knights in Untagged

Weather fine on Saturday, salad for supper again. Gervasio still west catching the 'breeders'......might go! We ended up with 200 'pocos' but the smaller ones are more juicy so I have been told. Just remember when you are eating your tuna in a restaurant, on the barby with a nice refreshing tipple it has been brought to you by the crews of the Nova Spero and the Charisma working 20 hours a day come what may. Miss U Jax, Jr, Jr. Rgds, CAPITANO EDWARDS

Sunday, damp and dismal. Some big tuna jumping right out the water.....Blue Planet stuff!!! Gervasio and me are beginning to string a few words together, looking forward to seeing him soon.....aftrenoon weather a big improvement and the fish started biting....ended up with 260 for the day.

Monday update: Charisma has 800 fish. Nova Spero 800 fish

Wot A Day

Posted by Quentin Knights in cornish line caught tuna

Weather west north west 6 to gale 8 - like living in a washing machine! Spoke to our Basque friend, by the sound of it he had another day off, who can blame him. From what Gervasio is saying I think the fishing is quiet with the Spanish fleet, it certainly is with us anyway. At this rate the man from Del Monte will have nothing but tinned fruit to sell next week. Jacket spuds for tea, highlight of the day! Ere you tomorrow Captaino.

Ere We Go Again

Posted by Quentin Knights in cornish line caught tuna

Off on another trip! Captaino Edwards is doing the blog this week I'm afraid, as our public relations officer, Quincy's off with an inflamed member - in his back I might add. He has been told to rest up for the week, mind you thats like telling a dog not to chace a cat! Well ere I am it's 2am and a south west 5 to 6 gale. She's like a bucking bronco at the minute everybody's turned in, and I'm ere making up spare traces/lures. If you read this Quincy I reckon we will bloody need them. Anyway hoping to start fishing sometime today. Spoke to our Basque friend Gervasio, he's in El Puerto, sailing tomorrow night. Anyway gotta get on ere, catch you soon. Jacks, Jodie & Jack love you all so much.

Last Day Today

Posted by Quentin Knights in cornish line caught tuna

Weather is crap this morning - south west gale pissing down with rain and the fish were loving it, so was I after a pack of pain killers got me through the day. Hope this isn't signs of me getting older cos it sucks! Ended up with 286 fish today - right on! They are small fish, not like the whoppers we had earlier in the trip, we will be landing 810 fish, another good trip but not an easy one. Got a weekend off for some 'R&R'. We will be in around 5pm Friday.

Wind And Rain

Posted by Quentin Knights in cornish line caught tuna

We've had a bit of a whacky race trip this time, all over the place. ended up with 119, a few smaller ones. going home tomorrow me thinks. I know my back is looking forward to a trip to Nevilles and then a steam room and sauna - bloody rich! Got to go catch some fish now.

The Fish Do Not Want To Play

Posted by Quentin Knights in cornish line caught tuna

Today has been one of those days - a total lash up and if I could swear more I'd put that as well! Weather is fresh, no fish and eating plenty of mars bars and coffee. Not a lot happening with us or the rest of the fleet. The fish do no want to play, we've been towing all over the place tried giving my back a reat but not working, not looking good i need a new one! Got about 45 fish for the day, has been a slog. Dicky will cheer us up with his cullenry delights though. It has been a bad day at the office today and i think we've got gales tomorrow. Quentin.

Whale Watching

Posted by Quentin Knights in Untagged

We have left the Basque fleet to join Walshy, fishing has gone mixey with small fish. We got 88 of the little beauties, small and meds, not the whoopers we were having. Weather turning fresh for the rest of the trip, the fishing in general has gone slack. We've had a bit of a blue planet day today, with a whale trying to get it on with the Nova Spero, we were all like Japanese tourists with our cameras on deck and have got a beauty picture of it jumping out of the water.

Weather Has Been All Over The Place

Posted by Quentin Knights in cornish line caught tuna

First the sun is shining, then the rain comes! Captaino is in Spanish mode at the moment, he cooked a delightful sort of tapas for lunch and very tasty it was too! Spray boats all over the place, fish were down deep, Mr Del Monte we finished up with 57 fish 7 small and the rest jumbos 12-13 kilo fish average! Going to have a bit of steak now bloody rich, it might be a fresh day tomorrow, saw our mate Gervasio today but only briefly been a lond day today, time to hit back on the memory mattress. Neville if you read this, my bloody back is giving me grief and I will give you a ring when we get in.
